Stawi Experiences is seeking a capable and proactive Backend Engineer to support the development of secure, scalable and data-driven web platforms. You will work closely with the Technical Lead and development team to build the backend systems that power complex business workflows, organizational accounts, bookings, budgeting, reporting and third-party integrations.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving real operational problems, can translate product requirements into reliable technical solutions and takes ownership of their work.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, test and maintain backend services using Node.js, Express.js and TypeScript.
- Design scalable RESTful APIs and well-structured PostgreSQL databases.
- Build core workflows such as organizational onboarding, event creation, bookings, quotations, approvals and budget tracking.
- Implement secure authentication, authorization and role-based access control.
- Develop multi-organization functionality while maintaining proper data separation.
- Integrate payment gateways, email and notification services, maps, analytics tools and other third-party APIs.
- Support AI-assisted workflows, including recommendations, budget estimates and document generation.
- Build reporting endpoints and data structures for dashboards and analytics.
- Implement validation, error handling, logging and audit trails.
- Optimize database queries and backend performance.
- Write automated tests and assist with quality assurance.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards.
- Troubleshoot production issues and deliver timely fixes.
- Maintain clear technical documentation for APIs, database structures and integrations.
- Collaborate with frontend developers, product stakeholders and the Technical Lead throughout delivery.
Requirements and qualifications
- 2–3 years of professional experience as a Backend Developer or Software Engineer.
- Strong proficiency in Node.js, Express.js and JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Solid experience with PostgreSQL and relational database design.
- Demonstrated experience designing, documenting and integrating RESTful APIs.
- Good understanding of authentication, authorization, role-based permissions and API security.
- Experience building data-driven applications with interconnected workflows.
- Familiarity with Git, pull requests and collaborative development practices.
- Experience deploying or maintaining applications in a cloud environment.
- Understanding of testing, debugging, logging and performance optimization.
- Ability to write clean, modular and maintainable code.
- Strong problem-solving, communication and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a development team.
- A strong portfolio or GitHub profile demonstrating relevant backend systems. The portfolio should show more than basic websites or tutorials.
